Different educationists, researchers and philosophers at different time intervals have put forwarded different definitions of Instructional Technology. Educational technology is a diverse and integrated method involving people, procedure, ideas, devices, and firm, where technology through different fields of science is borrowed as every the need and requirement of education for applying, evaluating, and taking care of solutions to people problems involved in all aspects of human studying.

The initial stage of educational technology is coupled with the use of aids like charts, maps, symbols, models, specimens and concrete materials. The phrase educational technology has been used as word alternatives to audio-visual assists. The second phase of educational technologies is associated with the 'electronic revolution' with the introduction and establishment of sophisticated hardware and computer software. Use of various audio-visual aids like projector, miracle lanterns, tape-recorder, radio and television delivered a revolutionary alter in the educational scenario. Accordingly, educational technology concept was taken in terms of these advanced instruments and pieces of equipment for effective display of instructional materials.

The third stage of educational technologies is linked with the development of mass media which in turn led to communication revolution' for instructional purposes. Computer-assisted Instruction used for education since 1950s also grew to become popular during this era. The 4th stage of academic technology is discernible by the individualized method of instruction. The innovation of programmed studying and programmed coaching provided a new dimensions to educational engineering. A system of self-learning based on self-educational materials and instructing machines emerged.

Electronics is the main technologies being developed in the starting of 21st century. Broadband Internet access became well-liked and occupied almost all the important offices and academic places and even in frequent places in produced countries with the advantage of connecting home computer systems with music libraries and cellular phones.

Today's school room is more probably to be a technology lab, a space with rows of pupils using internet connected or WI-Fi enabled laptop computers, palmtops, notepad, or maybe students are going to a video conferencing or virtual classroom or may have been listening to a podcast or using in a video lecture. Rapid technical changes in the field of academic have created brand new ways to teach and to learn.
