Ways To A More Creative Classic Family Portrait

By Cindy Raj

You again find yourself wondering what to do for your annual family portrait this year. You reminisce your previous portrait sessions, and though the traditional formal setup turned out beautiful, it didn't exactly vary from all the other portraits taken a year apart. This year, for a change, you decide to get more creative.

And then you start asking yourself what themes could best portray your family. For this purpose, the following tips may come in helpful.

Think about your family's personality, or probably hobbies you all share together. Are you a family of musicians? Does your family love to travel around the world? Do you all love the colour red? Are you all fond of a certain television show or film, so much so that you tend to adopt the characters in that certain show? Do you have favourite super heroes?

Let this serve as your inspiration for your family portrait's theme. Adding props will also make the scene seem more vibrant and real, such as bringing maps, souvenirs, and luggage if you are a group of travellers. Meanwhile, musical instruments will add a nice authentic touch to a portrait of a family of musicians, something photographers would surely have fun capturing.

When it comes to photographers for family portraits, you must remember to choose the best fit for your needs. Photographers produce varied qualities of work; likewise, what is lovely for one may not strike as good enough for everybody else. This is exactly why you should always look at a photographer's sample family portraits before signing up for a portraiture session. By considering these samples, you could gauge which photographer can give you the the exact results you want.

You could also discuss more options for your family portrait to come out more creatively. Similarly, you could ask for suggestions from the photographers on how you can make your own concept more camera-friendly. The more the creative input, the more memorable your classic family portrait will turn out.
