Photoshop Elements To Restore And Repair Old Photos

By David Peters

Photographs are a good way of capturing those moments that will linger in one's memories for years. Sadly, however, pictures aren't able to keep up with the same quality as time passes. Since photographs are simply paper they sometimes are affected by things such as moisture, dust and scratches and even light. The result is you will end up having pictures which are too light, have scuff marks and are no more looking that good.

Well when your photographs are looking too old and they no more look that appealing what do you do? Do you throw them away or you simply watch them get worse till they're no longer visible? Well worry not for with Elements you will be able to recover all your old pictures so they look great again as if they were taken just a couple hours ago.

Since pictures are on paper and Photoshop Elements is a computer program how then will you manage to use the program to restore and repair your old photos? Well the answer is you need to convert your photos to a digital format. You do this by scanning your pictures such that each photograph could be saved as a picture on the PC. Once you have scanned the pictures you're only one step to restoring and fixing them.

With Elements you'll be able to open the scanned images of your photos. When you open the pictures you may now edit them as you wish using the tools which are offered by the software. One thing you have to remember is to back-up the scanned images so you can always go back to the original ones in the event of mistakes.

Now fixing your photographs when using Adobe Elements is quite simple and it does not require any skilled training, all the tools in the Adobe Photoshop Elements software are very simple and easy to use. The most common tools you'll use when restoring photos will be the smudge, blur and sharpen tool, these are the tools you definitely will need to get to grips with.

So we are going to look at each of the three tools which you will come across in Elements and how you may use them in fixing your pictures. First the smudge tool, this tool is very effective at masking any scratches which would have been on the original photo that you scanned. The smudge tool will also enable you to remove any object in the background you wish to remove and correct pictures that weren't correctly focused.

The next tool is the blur tool. This tool will enable you to add some tone to pictures in order to appear darker than they originally did. This tool is really useful when you are dealing with pictures that have damaged because of long periods of contact with sunlight. Thus you'll be able to restore the colour in your photos so that it looks bright and attractive again.

The final commonest tool you will surely use when restoring pictures is the sharpen tool. This tool is mostly used to repair portions of a photo which might seem to be blurred. When you scan old photos that are now very light in colour you'll find that some of the parts will appear a little blurred and this is what the sharpen tool is designed to fix.

Keep in mind there is no picture too old to be fixed by Adobe Elements.
