Exceptional Customer Service - Vivitar Digital Camera Review

By Evan Adams

I really like it. I've owned this camera for about 3 months. I thought I had bought an indestructible camera for my teenage daughter. This camera did NOT function out of the box. While all of these were preventable, they don't detract from the overall value of this camera. I purchased this for upcoming travel in a harsh environment likely to test each of its waterproofing, shock proofing and dustproofing. I do however with there was a view finder so taking pictures in the dark would be easier. This is my second stylus water proof camera.

We thought it was just a glitch and moved on.

It does as said, for now. The shipping was pretty slow but all in all a great buy. The instructions provided with the camera, as well as the camera itself, are targeted toward PC users. There are no instructions with the camera, and none I can find so far online, for Mac users.

This camera is completely waterproof as long as you keep the battery encasement dry and closed (and it has a lock for safety). I was worried about this at first but soon felt comfortable that it wouldn't be ruined if I go snorkeling with it. This is a simple mechanism but it appears that Olympus made is worse so that the customer would purchase the more expensive camera. As you can figure from the above, the issue that I had with the camera is that once it was brought into the water, it leaked and was destroyed.

I also saw the same issue with poor focusing on anyone/anything moving. Rugged Design and feel Cons: Needing to hook up to a PC to "initialize" the camera I just bought this camera at best buy in Miami on vacation.

Great camera because of its survivable attributes! It's highly recommended if it fulfills your needs.

So therein lies the problem. The picture quality is average at best. I am currently shopping to replace that camera for upcoming cruise and would not take a chance on the same brand. This little camera was bought as a replacement to our old waterproof camera that we left at the top of a mountain (Olympus Stylus 850 SW). You can't tell the difference in speed of the photos being taken. Slow, very slow. Also, no external battery charger, so you have connect it with its door open to charge it - not ideal for keeping dust and dirt out of the waterproof compartment. Its overall design and build are not impressive.
