How Digital Cameras Have Evolved

By Sean Chandler

The Chinese and the Greeks may have been the first ones who thought of capturing a still image using a pin hole device. This is something that has intrigued many cultures since those early days of photography and has kept evolving.

The idea of the camera device was thought to be conceived theologically. It was based on an earlier concept of a Divine power. Cameras today are mostly digital, but they have descended from a long lineage of cameras.

When cameras were first invented, nobody gave a lot of thought to carrying them around. The pin hole version was the first model and after that the devices kept developing. But they were often large and ungainly because, after all, everyone realized that a person sized image was what was going to be captured with it.

In this camera, a static picture was taken by making the best use of available natural elements, and thus the required lighting was effectively created so as to click a picture via the pin-point device. After that, the person whose picture was clicked was displayed on the screen. And this image was manually printed on the then available resources.

This kind of camera was surely not meant for professional use; it was just an interesting creation. But latter, a much developed version of portable camera was introduced. The creative enthusiasts of that period then enhanced some features, already existing in previous cameras and made use of darkening chemicals. But, this characteristic of chemicals darkening was revealed when exposed to necessary light required to see the photograph.

After another endeavor to use a different kind of substance, finally a lasting picture was captured. Later, a scientist invented gelatinous plating, which allowed image capturing at a faster pace and with better quality of picture. Now, this quality of fast pace had to be united with a suitable capturing system; as a result, a shutter was invented. There was a mechanical response a soon as the shutter was triggered.

The first recognizable camera was made after a form of film was developed. In the nineteenth century, a black block shaped device was used. It had the same capturing ability that became available with later, more technologically advanced cameras.

As the process of evolution went on for years and decades, many more types of cameras were easily available. The present day modern Digital cameras are the enhanced and upgraded versions of those cameras. Today one can not only capture still pictures, but also capture motion pictures or videos. Also, those pictures can be transferred to any storage devices like hard drives, pen drives or computers, which can easily be viewed from multiple locations.
