Tips And Tricks For Taking Memorable Pictures

By Tyra Georgia Sanchez

Photography is a special art form which requires both talent and training. However, if you are not a born photographer, you can certainly learn enough good technique to take great pictures.

Play with the manual white balance feature. Often, incandescent bulbs commonly found in homes and businesses result in a yellow tinge to photographs taken indoors. It is often easier to change the white balance setting on the camera than to adjust the lighting in your room. This will give your photo's a more professional looking appearance.

The correct lighting is crucial when taking photographs outside. While the landscape may be beautiful, the photo can be destroyed by over-brightness, excessive shadows, or lighting splotches. Try to keep the sun at your back, or place your subject in the shade. You will get the best lighting in these areas.

Try to select photos that are unique, those that present a new view of something familiar. Although memory cards hold thousands of pictures, keep your photo albums down to just the ones you like most.

Your arms should be close against your body when you are holding the camera, and make sure your hands are on the sides and bottom of the camera. This will minimize shaking and produce clearer shots. Make sure that you're gripping the camera from underneath. What this does is steadies the camera better and also works to prevent any accidental drop.

Use your camera's focus-lock. Usually cameras automatically focus on the middle of the frame, leaving an off-center subject out of focus unless you manually tell the camera where to focus. This is usually accomplished by first making sure the object is in the center and pressing the shutter only halfway down. Then you move the camera so you can have it framed the way you want it. Push the button the remainder of the way in order to take the picture.

Find the right subject to photograph. An interesting subject can help, but it is up to you to make your subject interesting thanks to your creativity. Think about it for a bit then carefully choose objects that naturally inspire you. You can also look for someone to model and pose for you.

If you would like to attempt film-based photography, you can easily get a suitable camera from a thrift store. A film that has an ISO number of 200, with your black-and-white capture, will give you a dramatic effect. Try having prints made on different papers, like fiber-based papers.

Know the purpose of your photo before you start taking the shots. Sometimes you need vertical shots, and other times horizontal shots are better. After you take the picture, you can always edit it to look the opposite way, but it saves you hours of editing time by simply getting it right on the very first try.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not a good idea to wear white for a photo. If you are using the auto focus feature on your camera, it will record many varying colors and shading that it picks up through the lens. Because of this, white items of clothing are too pale and don't photograph well.

You should be more knowledgeable about photography. If you thought you knew a lot, you are now more of an expert. The advice you were given in this article should help you to do better when you're taking photographs.
