By Alan Stables

Buying a digital camera under 100 dollars will be useful if you now well your needs and how you plan to use it. This type of camera may be good enough to begin photography and take pictures for your own use.

Yet, buying a cheaper camera means that many features found in higher end camera will not be available. The image will also be of lower quality. In the end, the lower price may not offset the many options that you will not have. On the other end, if you are looking for a very portable camera, the ones under 100 dollars can be a good choice since they are usually quite small.

If you have ambitions of becoming a professional photographer, a cheaper camera will not be the right choice. Using a photo editing software may help improve some pictures, but anybody with some photography notions will notice the difference. All your pictures of wedding, nature, fashion or sporting events will reveal a lower quality.

With that being said, there are plenty of good digital cameras in this price range. Again, they will probably not have so much in the way of extras. For family events, sightseeing and similar needs, an inexpensive digital camera will work fine.

Fujifilm Finepix, Kodak Easyshare, Olympus, Samsung Digimax, Nikon Coolpix, Canon PowerShot, HP Photosmart, Panasonic Lumix, Polaroid, Casio Exilim and Sony Cybershot all have at least one digital camera model within the 100 dollar price range. There are many online shopping sites that will allow you to compare different cameras. That will give you a better idea of what features are available in the category.

Knowing how and in which conditions you take pictures help identifying the features on a camera that you will really need. If need a camera to double as a camcorder sometimes, you will have to pick a model that comes with some video capabilities.

You want to make sure that your camera does have some amount of zoom on it. It will be needed when you can't get close enough to the object you're shooting.

Most cameras provide you with the possibility to add an additional memory card on it. Internal memory is important, but the extra memory card will allow you to increase the capacity of your camera. It will also help you transfer your files rapidly by just plugging the card into your computer. Software are also available to help you upload your pictures on a computer.

Some memory cards come with a micro SD card that goes in a flash drive. This is great if you look for more portability. Some computers and phones even allow you to use that micro SD card to upload pictures. In the end, if your objective is not to become a professional photographer, a digital camera under 100 dollars could meet your photography needs.
