Wedding Photography - Tips For The Photographer on the Wedding Day

By Jane Smith

Wedding day can be very chaotic for everyone involved in the wedding. This is why as a wedding photographer it is so important to be organized, by having a plan and schedule ahead of time. This will help you to stay organized so that you can make the most of your time and capture the most pictures with the limited amount of time you have. Staying organized and on task will also help to keep the bride and groom happy.

Before you head to the location of the wedding or photo shoot, make sure that you eat something. You actually may be so busy later that you might not have time to eat. Pack all of your gear, and double check to make sure that you have everything, batteries, memory discs, extra batteries etc.

Before the wedding even takes place, it is likely that the bride and groom will want photos taken of the wedding party, as well as the wedding party getting ready. This is also a great time to get any detailed shots of significant items such as the rings, shoes, or bouquets. A lot of times these detailed photos can be some of the most interesting and memorable shots. Here are some common shots that you might wish to include, bride getting her hair and makeup done, photo of the dress hanging nicely, photo of the dress being zipped up, photo of shoes being put on, photo of the veil being secured, etc. Brides like to remember every little detail so it will be great if you can capture a lot of details. Before the ceremony you can also take shots of the venue, decorations as well as the guests arriving.

Before the ceremony begins make sure you get shots of all important members of the wedding party as well as family members. Include shots of the parents and grandparents if present. Get shots of each member of the wedding party including all bridesmaids individually, groomsmen individually and bridesmaids with groomsmen. Also get individual shots of the maid of honor as well as the best man. Once the ceremony begins make sure to get shots of everyone walking down the aisle, especially the bride walking with her father, and the father handing her off to the groom. During the ceremony keep taking photos of every moment, the bride and groom will appreciate every detailed shot. Keep shooting when the couple returns down the aisle as husband and wife.

After the ceremony has ended keep shooting as you are sure to capture some amazing action shots of the bride and groom happily celebrating with everyone coming up to greet and congratulate them. This is a great time to capture the emotions of everyone at the wedding.

As a wedding photographer, it's great to have a plan of action to keep you on task and to keep your clients happy. Keep this schedule in mind whenever you plan on taking photos at a wedding as it will serve as a guideline for the before the ceremony and ceremony shots that you may want to take.
