Abstract Art Paintings For Sale Will Appeal To Some

By Virginia French

Abstract art paintings for sale may please some discerning customers. Others may have a resistance to this kind of work which is sometimes dismissed without much thought. The Internet allows pictures to be viewed on the Internet without the effort of having to go to an exhibition or terrestrial gallery.

The mood of a person privately browsing the Internet is likely to be quite different to that of a person who makes a special effort to dress formally and go out into a public venue. In fact many casual browsers could come across paintings accidentally and be moved to explore them further in private without being swayed by public perceptions, the comments of others or the need to take a particular stand. Clearly, there are significant differences between the two modes of approaching the work of painters.

The clear distinction between oriental art and its western counterpart raises fascinating questions. The former is obviously much older and seems to follow a markedly different style. One commentator observed that Chinese art appeals to the eye of the mind and western art to the physical eye. This line of thought could suggest that there are elements of symbolism in oriental art. However, for convenience the term might be used solely to refer to the kind of painting that emerged near the beginning of the twentieth century in the western hemisphere.

As the twentieth century began there were movements in the art world. Painters began to depict things from different points of view. Impressionists softened the edges of things and seemed to leave them incomplete, Fauvists experimented with color and Cubism with geometric shapes and different points of view. Early artists were confident and provocative, unaware of the horrors that awaited the world but it is possible that new inventions such as the camera might have had a bearing on their motivation.

Any movement that departs radically from the conventional is bound to attract negative comment. There are many who attach abstract art viciously, almost as though they have a grudge against it for no apparent reason. Gleefully they hold up for ridicule unfortunate critics who have been taken in by the work of elephants or apes, mistaking purpose for accident.

Ignorance and affectation can both play their respective roles in appreciation but these are really superficial considerations. More important are real efforts to create meaning out of composition of color, line and form. Human evolution from the concrete world of the senses to the world of concepts and abstractions that hover above us is not only a matter of apprehending but also of creating.

Some artists prefer to work from the objective to the subjective, or from the concrete to the abstract. They may take accurate sketches of objects or scenes and work from them back to symbolic representations of them in terms of colors, lines and shapes.

What constitutes 'good' taste is not something that is easily arrived at in an objective sense. Taste is an intensely personal issue. However, people who have been cultivated in streams of education and well pruned by critical thinking and debate will probably be the ones most likely to recognize in abstract art paintings for sale that which is most meaningful, tasteful and beautiful.
